Today's "room for improvement" observation: the Under Bed Door on 171's.
What was going to be a simple weatherstripping job, ended up being a minor rebuild. We are still having cold nights here, down in the 30F range, and I noticed the bed compartment had a hard time warming up. I noticed a strong draft coming out from the under bed storage door. I put in some generic weather stripping, which helped a lot. But I had to do some fixes.
1) The door itself was mounted almost 1/2" too high. I had to lower it because it actually sat above the sill plate and you could see light through it. So I moved it down which was fairly simple.
2) The door jam that the hinges screw into is VERY soft wood. Even with my drill torque set to 1, the wood wanted to strip out like it was balsa. I had to put in extra screws, long term I am going to have to through bolt it. Be VERY careful if you move the door etc.
3) The jam itself is out of plumb. I had to shim the lower hinge to get the door level.
4) On the upside: the weather stripping filling the 1/4" gap all around the door made a huge improvement, no draft and the bed side of the pod warms up much quicker.
