I missed the start of this thread, and have to agree with those who agree with the winterizing post we all have been basing our winterizing methods on. I assume the critic does not use antifreeze in his system. In that case one may want to have everything open. I drain and blow out everything, leave the drain for the fresh water tank off and the anode out, run antifreeze through every line and fixture. I have never disturbed the other low point drains since they will be filled with antifreeze. In six winters no problems and we have real winter here as well.
I think we just bumped into another internet expert. Not the first time.
