I don't see why not. However, it wouldn't be very attractive. If you can put some kind of finish over it to make it look nice, I think it would be one of the easier ways to accomplish the task. I would think it would be good to have some space for ventilation though. If there are any places water can get in, having openings would help to dry it out to minimize rust potential.

yes, they are all leds.  They work with the running lights just not tail light or blinker.

we have a new 179 and find the LED lights way too bright at night. Does anyone know if there are lights that are less bright?

LEDs go bad. And aren't there two bulbs? If you've checked every thing else, check the bulbs. Real simple.

One of the first things I did on our 2011  model 177 was to change from incadescent to L.E.D.'s to save on battery drain since we often camp where electricity is not available.  I opted for bulbs in the 2500-2800 Kelvin scale, more yellowish, look quite a bit like incadescent in colour.  Probably your best bet to get the color you want is to go to Menards or Lowes and go to their lighting center, they have a vast array of L.E.D.'s and different light brightness based on the Kelvin scale.  Pick the brightness you desire and then order accordingly from your supplier you find online.  I believe the bulbs on the new pods are somewhere in the 4500 to 5000 Kelvin scale, very blue and extremely bright in colour.

I do not think there are any laws governing what model year you name a car/RV.  Cars are all very close to one another and the next years version usually comes out in August.  But once I bought a mid year new model and it was in April and yet they gave it next years model year, nine months early! When we heard about the new blue color in June 2016 I called Forest River to ask if the new 2017 model was going to be at the Sept 2016 Hershey PA auto show.  He refused to say yes or name the year.  His reply was they would be showing the latest models.  While a dealer can call it anything on a title, I think it is unethical (but not illegal) to put 2017 on a title for a RPOD manufactured in 2016 for the main reason Forest River is not calling it a 2017 so why should the dealer.  The fact is RPODS are made Jan/Feb, May/June and Sep/Oct.  They can change them any of those times and usually do but the changes do not reflect a new model year,  just the latest version.  It is difficult concept and took me a while to understand since cars are done by model years and RPOD dealers continue to call them by model year (especially Couch Nation that uses the 201X.5 designation) BUT Forest River does not acknowledge RPOD model years.  The best thing to do if you are buying a new RPOD is to read on these posts what the latest versions are and tell your dealer you want that model or else demand a bigger discount for not selling the most recent production version.

How does one manually retract the slide-out in a 2017.5 (blue)177?

I don't find anything in the manual.

Once again the bulbs work fine with the running lights.  They are the same bulbs.  There are not 2 sets of bulbs.  These are LED's so there are many tiny bulbs. They all work fine when the running lights are on but do not work with the brake light or blinker.  The bulbs can not be replaced like a non LED light. The entire light assembly would have to be replaced so its not just a simple check of the bulb.

there has to be a wire that is loose. It takes two sides to run the lights.

I think I may ponder adding the slide topper and be done with it.  Thanks for the suggestions.  Yet another item not mentioned by the FR manual or the dealer tech.

Hmmmm, again,

Apparently, mad67 is concerned about being "prosyletized" by people who put 'tags' on their signature lines that serve to individualize that writer, self-identifying themselves as real people with real interests. These tags are not intended to directly change opinions. This is a non-issue. But if you look up the definition (To convert or attempt to convert (someone) from one religion, belief, or opinion to another), by posting his/her opinion to us, mad67 is actually the one 'prosyletizing' us, but none of us got the vapors over it.

At a time when certain people, allegedly college students, riot to prevent people with a different view, like Ann Coulter, from speaking, perhaps we all should be seeking ways to encourage more diversity of opinions, not discourage them?

Does anyone have info about if the awning offered for the new 179 can be purchased for older 179's ? I believe it is made by Thule. Does anyone no of a box awning being offered that can be installed on the 179 like the forest river awning being used on the new 179? I found a source for an 10x8 Thule box awning for $400.00 but I would need a mounting kit to attach it to my 179.

I don't see an issue with the quotes at all.  If you have issues with it then God is talking to you and you are refusing to listen.  One day you will listen to him and then it will be too late.  I feel sorry for those in that boat but you chose your own path.

What solar controllers are you using? Did you get the recommended Zamp or are you running different brands? Any preferences on controller and/or panels?

Did you get an inverter too?

My understanding is it cannot. The old model 179s did not have the exterior wall strength for the awning. New 179s have a bolstered wall.

When we first got our rPod 179 2 1/2 yrs ago I thought the lights were too bright.  I was going to change out the leds , but couldn't get the cover off.  A few camping trips later, I realized that I hadn't changed the bulbs yet, but they don't seem so bright any more.  Now they are fine.  I wonder if maybe they tone themselves down a bit after use.  Maybe I have just adapted.
